A Little Bit About Me: Education I have a BS in math with specialization in computer science from Purdue University (Go Boilers!) and an MBA with concentrations in accounting and finance from The University of Chicago. Experience I've worked as a computer programmer and analyst and as an auditor for a large public accounting firm. I've assembled, tested, installed, and supported microcomputer accounting systems for small businesses (hardware and software). I'm a licensed and bonded CPA and have had my own private practice since 1976. I specialize in startup consulting, payroll service, and QuickBooks support. I serve as a beta tester for QuickBooks, Turbotax, and Intuit Pro Series professional tax preparation software. I teach workshops about taxes, recordkeeping, and QuickBooks as a volunteer for the Neighborhood Self Employment Initiative and Central Indiana Women's Business Center (more about that at the bottom of page three) My clients have included small business owners and solo entrepreneurs working in such fields as dentistry, physical therapy, landscape architecture, commercial real estate brokerage, property and casualty insurance, dog grooming, education, alternative medicine, and on-line music sales. What Does This Mean To You? You're probably wondering what all this means to you. Does my education and experience really matter? Is what I do really different from other consultants you might hire? Allow me to explain. The Dramatic Difference My training as an auditor taught me how to look behind and beyond the numbers to understand what's really going on. I use the same analytical techniques to get to the source of your computer frustrations. Having worked with many different people over the years, I've learned that there's rarely only one way to do things. My greatest strength is not in having all the answers, but in knowing what questions to ask and how to find a solution that works for you. My experience in designing, writing, and testing computer programs allows me to bring a logical, structured approach to my consulting engagements. I know what to look for when evaluating software. I'm constantly looking for new tools for myself and my clients and I check them out by using them for real projects in my office. For the past several years I've been able to keep my skills sharp by participating as a beta tester for QuickBooks, Turbo Tax, and Pro Series. The Information Explosion I truly believe that the main reason people have difficulty today solving problems and making decisions isn't because they have too little information, but because they have too much information. It's easy to become overwhelmed by too many choices. I read a lot, attend classes, study product reviews, connect with users groups and forums, attend networking functions, and bounce ideas off colleagues and coaches. I gather lots of information, analyze it, condense it, simplify it, and turn it into knowledge that you can actually use in your business. I can help you move from confusion to clarity. I can help you learn how to learn. And I can help you free up more time to focus on growing your business. You can get started by signing up for my Special Report (it's free).
